Random Thoughts - Doctor Who & Torchwood

I finally finished watching all 3 seasons of Doctor Who, just need to see the Christmas special before the new season starts.
Just a few random thoughts...
- Surprisingly, I liked 9 over 10 as the Doctor. 10 is more attractive (which I'm truthful and usually go for), but 9 came across more fun and relaxed.

- For both Doctor Who and Torchwood... after being subjected to so much inconsistency and destroying of canon by Smallville, it was so nice to watch a couple shows that stay so consistent that they even bring back characters (and actors) from the original run of Doctor Who decades ago. That impressed me so much.
- Even though it may take you a few extra episodes or even through a few seasons, recurring characters or names that make you go 'hmmm' are eventually explained.
- "Blink" from Doctor Who is easily the scariest tv show episode I ever watched. *shudders*
Finally...
- Captain Jack Harkness is the Face of Boe?!?!?!? That certainly explains so much about the Face of Boe knowing the Doctor and also knowing he wasn't alone. That little comment by Jack just about made me squeal like a little girl.
Looking forward to keeping up with the new season of Doctor Who now. :D

on 2008-03-23 09:53 pm (UTC)Don't think I'll watch Doctor Who. I just hope I can watch Torchwood without doing so and still get things. When I get more money I'm gonna probably buy the first season of TW. Maybe. And sadly, neither of the TW eps had any really great Jack/Ianto interaction.

on 2008-03-23 10:45 pm (UTC)TW is just.... incredible! I'd definitely recommend watching the rest of it. :D And if you can, catch up on Doctor Who too. Captain Jack was in 6 eps, but it makes more sense if you see the whole series. Right now, there's only about 42 total eps (13-14 per season).

OMG I KNOW XD It's also so brilliant and cohesive and self-contained, because it's a Doctor-lite episode so you can watch it without knowing a thing about the Doctor. "Blink" is the episode I use to convert friends into the Whoniverse ;-)
There are lots of arguments on either side of the Jack-Boe thing, but thinking of that and rewatching "Gridlock" makes me cry. Jack's life story = waiting for the Doctor to show up.
I'm a Ten fangirl, but Nine was my first, and as DT himself has said, you never forget your first Doctor ^_^
Oooh, have you seen "Time Crash", the Children in Need special for 2007? Had me in tears, and I'd never even seen Five before.
Woooo, someone else to squee with about the new season! You know that a certain companion is coming back for S4, right?

on 2008-03-24 01:18 am (UTC)"Blink" just about scared the crap out of me. lol Especially since I was watching it late at night in my bedroom, alone, with the lights out. lol I had to watch another ep so I could sleep ok. lol Which wasn't bad, since it was "Utopia" and Jack was back. ;)
Since I just watched the series, I've never read anything about Jack/Boe. But, I guess to me, it makes sense. Boe had a very long life. He knew about the Master. There was another comment Boe made to the Doctor that makes sense too, but I can't remember it now. :P What I'm curious about is what happened to Jack that he ended up looking like Boe?

hehehe I like that. :D
I haven't seen "Time Crash" yet, but I'll look for it. :) I haven't seen anything with Doctor Who before this. The funny thing is, a few years ago, my nephew and I were at a used book sale and he got a couple Doctor Who books because a friend on line told him to check it out. Now I'm trying to get him to watch the new series and TW. :D
I haven't seen anything about S4 yet, so I don't know who's coming back.

on 2008-03-25 08:41 am (UTC)LOL, I remember once complaining to my ex-bf (who remains a close friend) about not being able to find the QAF DVDs even though the store had Doctor Who. I was all, "Who wants to watch Doctor Who?" He turned out to be a casual fan (oops) and tried to get me interested, but I was all ONLYWANTQAFPRETTYKTHX.
Then I saw him again last Christmas, and we hadn't been in touch for half a year, during which the Whoniverse had sucked me up. Suddenly I was correcting his idea of the timelines and plot points XD
I was going to tell you about the returning character in S4, but I reckon you should see for yourself in the trailer I just posted HERE, it's near the end ;-)

on 2008-03-24 11:36 am (UTC)I think my lack of love for Rose somehow stems from mental Lana scarring.

on 2008-03-24 01:24 pm (UTC)I didn't mind Rose. Now, Gwen... she reminds me of Lana quite a bit. But even she's more tolerable than Lana because they allow her to screw up.
